In ancient Roman religion, Flora was the goddess of flowers, spring, and the renewal of nature — one of the most beloved figures in the classical pantheon. Her cult was celebrated during the Ludi Florales, a festival of joy and abundance held each April. Flora appears throughout Western art history as a symbol of fertility, beauty, and the cyclical rebirth of the natural world. Among the most celebrated depictions is the graceful figure attributed to the Farnese collection, as well as the iconic representation immortalized by Sandro Botticelli in Primavera (c. 1477–1482, Uffizi Gallery, Florence), where she scatters flowers as an embodiment of the season itself.
