A working garden fountain is one of the most striking features you can add to your outdoor space. The sound of flowing water, the movement, the light reflecting off the surface — these details transform an ordinary garden into something truly special.
But like any quality feature, a garden fountain requires regular attention and care. The good news: maintenance is not complicated — a few scheduled interventions throughout the year are enough to keep it perfect for decades.
Why Fountain Maintenance Is Essential
Italpark garden fountains are made from cement aggregate composed of Carrara marble granulate and white cement RCK 52.5. The two main enemies of a working fountain are limescale — which can irreversibly damage the pump rotor and void the warranty — and algae, which clog pipes and reduce pump efficiency.
Routine Maintenance
Water Top-Up
Fundamental rule: the pump must never run without water. Check the water level at least once a week and top up as needed.
Anti-Algae and Anti-Limescale Treatment
Regularly add ART. CH02 to the fountain water — formulated specifically for marble granulate fountains. Every 1-2 weeks in summer; every 3-4 weeks in spring and autumn.
Surface Cleaning
Use water and a soft sponge, at most once a year. Avoid detergents and aggressive chemicals on visible surfaces.
Seasonal Maintenance
Spring: Restarting After Winter
Visual inspection for cracks, basin cleaning, pump rotor check, first anti-algae treatment, function test.
Summer: Peak Season
Check water level at least twice a week. Increase anti-algae treatment frequency. If foam appears, drain, clean and restart with fresh water.
Autumn: Preparing for Rest
Remove leaves and debris, final anti-algae treatment, plan shutdown when temperatures drop below 4°C at night.
Winter Care: Protecting from Frost
Below 3°C: completely drain the fountain.
- Switch off and remove the pump
- Completely drain crown, pipes and rim
- Dry and store pump in a frost-free location
- Cover the fountain with a waterproof sheet
- Apply waterproofing treatment ART. SI05 in harsh winter areas
Pump Maintenance
Clean filter and rotor at least once a year. Warning signs: unusual noise (limescale on rotor), reduced flow (clogged filter), overheating (water level too low). Limescale voids the warranty — regular prevention is the best insurance.
