Eirene (la pace)

Eirene — the Greek personification of Peace — is one of the three Horae, daughters of Zeus and Themis, alongside Dike (Justice) and Eunomia (Order). Her most celebrated depiction is the marble statue by Kephisodotos the Elder (c. 375–370 BC), preserved at the Glyptothek in Munich, which portrays her as a serene, draped figure cradling the infant Ploutos (Wealth) in her arms. The composition conveys a profound message: true prosperity can only flourish in the presence of peace. Revered in ancient Athens, Eirene was honoured with an altar on the Agora and celebrated with annual sacrifices, a testament to how deeply her ideal was woven into civic life.

This Art. 432 reproduction by Italpark faithfully captures the graceful posture and flowing drapery of the classical original.
