Ebe (big)

Hebe was the goddess of youth in ancient Greek mythology, daughter of Zeus and Hera and cupbearer of the gods on Mount Olympus. The most celebrated sculptural interpretation of this figure is the marble statue created by Antonio Canova around 1800–1805, of which several versions exist — including those housed at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg and the Staatliche Museen in Berlin. Canova portrayed Hebe in a moment of graceful movement, balancing a cup and jug as she pours the nectar of immortality, capturing an ideal of lightness and eternal beauty that became one of the defining images of Neoclassical sculpture.
