Eris

Eris: The Goddess of Discord in Classical Garden Sculpture

In Greek mythology, Eris is the goddess of discord and strife, a powerful and ambivalent figure whose presence runs through the great epic cycles of antiquity. Sister of Ares and companion of the war god on the battlefield, she is perhaps best known for casting the golden apple inscribed "for the fairest" among the gods — the act that set in motion the events leading to the Trojan War. Despite her turbulent nature, Eris was represented in ancient art with a commanding, statuesque dignity, embodying the raw energy of conflict and the inevitability of fate. Her iconography draws from the rich tradition of Hellenistic sculpture, where divine figures were rendered with dramatic tension and refined elegance in equal measure.

This classical garden statue by Italpark interprets the figure of Eris with the craftsmanship that has distinguished the company since 1968. Standing approximately 120 cm tall, it is cast in an agglomerato cementizio composto da graniglia di marmo di Carrara e cemento bianco RCK 52,5, a composite material that captures the luminous, stone-like quality of traditional sculpture. Every surface detail is rifinita a mano by skilled artisans at the Italpark workshop in Borgo San Giacomo, Brescia, ensuring a level of finish consistent with the finest Italian decorative tradition. The base measures approximately 32×30 cm, and the overall weight is around 108 kg, reflecting the solidity and presence of a truly substantial decorative piece.

Art. 467 — Eris is designed exclusively as a decorative element for outdoor and indoor settings. Placed in a garden, on a terrace, or within the grounds of a villa, this figure introduces a note of classical mythology and sculptural gravitas to any environment. Its Made in Italy origin, combined with the timeless appeal of Carrara marble grit, makes it a distinguished choice for collectors, landscape designers, and anyone seeking to enrich their outdoor space with a piece of authentic Italian artisanal culture.
